We’re shining the spotlight on Alima K., Specialist, Field Operations, at dentalcorp’s Support Centre. Alima tells us about moving from the UK to Canada, using problem-solving skills to meet dentalcorp’s mission, and embracing every experience in the workplace.
Tell us about your background — how long have you been with dentalcorp, and what were you doing before you joined?
Before joining dentalcorp, I worked as an Administration Manager and Operations Lead for a London-based (UK) Maritime Quality company. I managed all business and administrative functions. It was a unique experience, and I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to travel globally, learn, and grow.
Can you tell us about your role on the team and what a typical day looks like?
We manage cross-functional meetings each week, contact Practice Managers when needed, and collect data for analysis and commentary for revenue and roles. Working in Operations means that our daily tasks can sometimes take a back seat if we need to help other departments. But it’s great to experience how Practice Managers keep their practice in top form with guidance from the Support Centre.
What motivates you in your role?
I’m always utilizing skills I've developed over the years. Working within a central department means there are many ways to measure efficiency and profitability. The Operations Team is exposed to numerous areas of the business, and we understand that we collectively play a vital role within the Practices. I’m encouraged to use creative problem-solving skills to help meet dentalcorp’s mission — to deliver the best patient experience and clinical outcomes. My main goal is to make day-to-day operations as efficient as possible for Practice Managers and staff by developing and maintaining resources and relationships.
What advice do you have for new team members joining dentalcorp’s Support Centre?
Embrace every experience from day one, and don’t be afraid of voicing your suggestions. The teams are intelligent, helpful, and friendly, and your hard work will be recognized and celebrated. I felt positive energy from day one and instantly knew joining dentalcorp was the right choice.
How do you like to spend your spare time?
Before the pandemic hit, I would travel to my favourite vacation spots, like France, Harrogate (Northern England), and the Netherlands. I can’t wait to start exploring the Americas and hopefully plan a trip to South East Asia in a few years. I’d also like to visit my parent's new retirement house in Sierra Leone.
What’s your favourite quote, mantra, or motto?
I bob and weave as challenges come my way.
