We’re shining the spotlight on Samantha W., Program Specialist, Category Development, at dentalcorp’s Support Centre. Samantha tells us about her contribution to the development of new programs and initiatives, renovating her 1984 trailer, and the importance of taking every opportunity to learn and grow.
Tell us about your background — how long have you been with dentalcorp, and what were you doing before you joined?
I’ve been with dentalcorp since April 2019. Before joining the organization, I worked for the Province of Ontario in the Corporate Communications department. My role focused on creating strategic communication plans to deploy new processes for Ontario Alcohol and Gaming registrants. My education and previous experience continue to help me grow every day in my current role with dentalcorp as a Program Specialist.
Can you tell me a bit about your role on the team and what a typical day looks like?
A typical day begins with reviewing the workback schedules of the program activities that are running. I work closely with other teams to ensure tasks are completed on schedule, and I help develop and update resources to support our various initiatives.
What motivates you in your role?
Process, efficiency, and innovation. I feel honoured to contribute to the development, growth, and continued innovation of the Practice Development programs, campaigns, and initiatives. I’m proud to see our practices enjoy their experience when participating in our activities. I’m always looking for a challenge to continue growing in my career. The sense of accomplishment is overwhelming when I compare where the Practice Development activities were three years ago to now.
What advice do you have for new team members joining dentalcorp’s Support Centre?
dentalcorp is extremely fast-paced, and though it can be challenging, it also makes for an exciting experience. My advice for new team members is to grasp each opportunity available to learn and grow in their role. Everyone plays a vital role in making a positive contribution to our practices.
How do you like to spend your spare time?
I really love adding a special touch to create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. I recently purchased a 1984 camper trailer, and I love spending time renovating it. During the colder months, I enjoy refurbishing old and discarded furniture.
What’s your favourite quote, mantra, or motto?
Focus on the solution, not the problem.
