Director, Internal Audit – Central Canada
REPORTING TO: EVP & CFO
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director, Internal Audit, a new position for the organization, will develop an internal audit plan to ensure controls are in place and operating effectively across the organization. The Director will develop and execute an Internal Audit Plan and Program focused on both financial and operational processes. The financial component will focus on accuracy of the financial statement and protection of assets and, the operations component will focus on compliance of Standard Operating Procedures. leads the internal audit function, including the development, implementation, and communication of the long term and annual audit program and results. The Director, Internal Audit works with key stakeholders in the Practice Community and Support Centre to align audit functions and accountabilities with dentalcorp priorities. The key objective of the role is to elevate controls, transparency and governance, enhancing dentalcorp’s overall effectiveness.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop an annual Audit Plan using a risk-based oversight methodology (COSO or otherwise), aligned with the strategic plan and risk areas identified by the Senior Leadership Team focused on both financial and operational risks, leveraging the resources of the Support Centre, including risks or control concerns identified by the Leadership Team and submit that plan for review and approval
- Implement Execute the annual Audit Plan, as approved, including and as appropriate, any special mandates or projects requested by the Senior Leadership Team
- Raise the bar and become an ambassador of a culture of excellence in processesexecution and adherence with internal controls.Assist and advise management and staff in developing best-in-class risk management practices
- Issue timely reports for each audit performed including a response from management indicating the corrective action to be taken with completion dates and perform follow-up review of management action plans
- Prepare and present semi-annual progress reports to the Senior Leadership Team summarizing the status of the audit plan and results of audit reports and the status of remediation from prior audits
- Coordinate efforts with those of the external audit firm and other parties engaged by the company to maximize the effectiveness of audit resources
- Inform Leadership Team of emerging trends and successful practices in internal auditing and risk management
- Ensure the Audit function is viewed as a “value added” in helping the organization achieve its operational and financial goals
- Ensure the use of best practices, processes and tools from a quality and efficiency perspective
KEY REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS
- CPA designation with CISA or CIA certification
- Minimum of 5 years in audit, internal audit, internal controls and/or regulatory compliance
- Strong technical internal audit skills, including IT, contract and business process audit skills, and an extensive knowledge of financial controls
- Ability to build strong relationships with auditees
- Leader, excellent communicator with a bias for teaching and able to present to senior executives
- Strong sense of urgency, ethics and integrity
- Strong interpersonal skills, team collaboration and listening aptitudes
- Ability to manage difficult conversations and build trust, while maintaining integrity
- Strong Business acumen and passion to help improve operations continuously
- Significant experience with financial and accounting software including but not limited to Excel based applications
- Solid knowledge of computer software that enable data analysis, Excel
- Experience and knowledge of health care industry a significant asset
- Travel to various sites to meet staff, and obtain documents & information may be required
